Passing of Prof. Alberto Centeno, Founder of the PPGCB

Professor Alberto José Centeno, founder and first coordinator of the PPGCB, passed away on May 2nd. Professor Centeno became renowned at the Institute of Biological Sciences of UFG for his key role in consolidating the Institute at its inception, as well as for founding its first graduate program—one of the earliest at UFG—the Graduate Program in Biology (1979), which is now known as the Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (PPGCB). Professor Centeno served as the first coordinator of the PPGCB from 1980 to 1981 and held a second term from 1988 to 1990. The story of the founding of the PPGCB, as told by Professor Centeno, can be watched on the PPGCB YouTube channel, in the commemorative video marking the Program’s 40th anniversary, released in November 2019 (PPGCB 40 Anos - YouTube). The PPGCB expresses its deep gratitude for Professor Centeno’s pioneering spirit and the lasting legacy he leaves for graduate education at the ICB and UFG.
